what do you get when you put a tired, jet lagged, moderately German speaking Canadian exchange student with ADD in a classroom with the lights off, a droning teacher teaching stuff he already knows (believe it or not) in a language that he is only just learning? you get a sleeping student. My eyes had (accidentally, I was legit trying my hardest to stay awake) closed for no more than 5 seconds when the teacher was standing in front of me, rather loudly and startlingly asking me if i was sleeping. of course, everyone heard, which was rather amusing. how could he have possibly noticed that quickly? albeit, i was in the front row, but still, he had to be looking directly at me for long enough to realize that i was not simply blinking, but he did, in 5 seconds. Amazing, really.
Before Physics, I had a rather interesting Math class, where i actually learned derivative functions in 90 minutes. I was impressed. the word problems were a challenge though, so i had Björn translate it for me. We finished three questions in 90 minutes, not a world record, but not bad for just learning.
Last block of the day. History class, in English. Learning how to not pronounce the word Renaissance. instead of pronouncing it as the french do, as Reh-Neh-Sahnse (yay for phonetic spelling), the teacher was pronouncing it Reh-Nay-Since. annoying as all hell. fun class though, learning about the Medici in Renaissance Italy, which was cool. I already knew about the Pazzi Conspiracy, however, because I stopped the assassination of Lorenzo de' Medici in the late 1400s as Ezio Auditoire, as many did in Assassin's Creed 2. Nobody else in my class has every played or heard of it. Damn, so many missed references. But we learned about that time period, and it was cool.
And now comes the obligatory explanation of my blogging. I don't want to have to keep in touch with my parents by email, my friends via Facebook, and my German classroom via Twitter. one or two are fine, but three is overdoing it, so i'm making myself a blog. hopefully people care enough about what i say that i get some views. I have also partially forsaken gramatic structure (blogspot is telling me i spelt gramatic wrong but it won't tell me how to spell it right...really?) (just left the computer for about an hour to go eat waffles with Björn's mother) because i don't really care about it right now.
an observation i have had while here is how little i am expected to do. I need not clean my clothes, clean up after supper, or even make my own toast in the morning. it's really weird. Björn's mother does everything, which is rather different than my house because we have many children and a bigger house. good times.
well, that's my day so far. i'm leaving to play PS3 with Björn.
bis spater, tschus!
James! Had to get news of your blog from mom, jerk. Is there a button here anywhere to subscribe or anything so I know when you have a new post? I don't speak German...
ReplyDeleteno idea, but i plan to post on here very frequently. try right clicking the background and clicking 'translate to English'. all of my web pages are automatically translated into German now because our router is German...fml.
