just took the battery out of my phone after it (being off for the last 2 weeks...!) turned on and told me the battery is low. FML if that counts as roaming...
most of my day today i spent thinking about my next school year in Canada. when i get back, next year alone, i need to take Biology 20 and 30, Chemistry 20 and 30, Social 20 and 30, English 30 and Math 31. I will have 8 cores, and a massive workload, and the only alternative i can think of would be to take an extra semester, if that's possible. pretty sure i can take an extra year, but i don't want a whole year, even an extra semester might be pushing it but i don't know if i can handle the workload. should be fun...
but school today, i got to show off my french skills in my first real pronunciation of oral reading with my class. felt great cause i heard a 'whoa...' from the back as i was reading a short passage.
another funny french class story: Thursdays, i have a seventh block spare and french in eighth block. i sat and read a book (third in the series i started when i came to Germany (yes Mom, the ones you gave me, they are outstanding :p )). i lost track of time, and nobody here has any idea what time the classes start. exams are apparently being written at this point in the year (???) so the bells are cancelled, you are simply expected to be in class on time without knowing when that is. so i'm sitting in the hallway by my french class when people start pouring into my class. I had been reading for a while, so i merge with the crowd and enter the class, pull up a desk, and await my latest learning experience. however, to avoid awkward situations like this, when i enter a classroom i automatically search for certain people i know are in my classes, in this case Lukas (Björn's best friend) and another girl (who's name i don't know but we talk sometimes). Neither were there. I turn to the guy next to me, and mumble 'Französische?' (meaning 'French' in German). He gives me a really odd look, and no, i was indeed not in my french class but had instead walking into class 45 minutes early. awesome. I knew probably half the class. most of them know me. way to blend... :p

some interesting observations and suggestions for Canadian schools:
-this school does not employ lockers. you bring it to school, you lug it with you everywhere. You have a bag and a jacket. walk into the class, jacket on the back of your chair or your back, bag under your desk. i have as of yet never been in a congested hallway. in Canada, it is rare to not be in a congested hallway as the halls are lined with badly painted, oversized lockers for the crap people don't need at school. the lockers and the people standing on front of the take easily half the hallway width, and lockers are expensive. suggestion - ditch the lockers. waste of space and money.
-my school, just before i left, had just received some new money for upgrading technology in our school. They went and bought several dozen tvs for the school, flat screens that they use to broadcast outdated pictures of students around the school or the morning announcements. <rant> WHY THE HELL DO WE NEED THESE? NOBODY CARES OR LISTENS TO THE ANNOUNCEMENTS!</rant> furthermore, there are no announcements in the mornings here. you are expected to find our what you need to know. there is one tv in the foyer of the school, displaying the announcements and substitute/absent teachers for the day. no money wasted there. suggestion - spend your money wisely, or give it to someone who will.
-the classrooms here are very flexible. once you walk into a class, the orientation and position of the desks can change dramatically.
Canada = neat, tidy rows of students, all facing the front.
Germany = generally a rectangular formation facing the inside, with scattered students and nerds in the middle facing the front. you have not an assigned desk, but an assigned place on the floor to be occupied by you, a desk, and a chair. this is a good idea. we need more flexibility in classrooms. it works.

we had a picnic today in Religion Studies. again. apparently our teacher (the following is an opinion stated by a peer and as such is not my opinion) feels that having us move to another classroom, sit in a circle, watch a Bible skit, and eat cake (??!!) will motivate us to be better and brighter students. I LIKE THIS. thus far, we have watched two skits, one of Joseph and his brothers, the other of Moses being found by Pharaoh's family. both of these have a film about them ('Joseph, King of Dreams' and 'The Prince of Egypt') both of which i have seen and enjoyed.
there is cake everywhere here. homeroom, each week, somebody makes cake. sports class on monday. 2 different people had cake. Björn's old homeroom class, i had cake three times in two classes. walking down the hall, there is cake EVERYWHERE! i don't get it...but it is awesome. good cake.
My Computer Science teacher doesn't know that I'm an exchange student. from my view, i have two options: tell him, or see how long it takes him. i personally think it would be funnier to see him figure it out, but most people just play games in his class anyways, or talk amongst themselves. (blogspot.com does not recognize amongst as a word...) i try to make the codes he is making, although we use different programs. they use a visual Java compiler, aptly called Java Editor. I use Eclipse. sounds so much more sophisticated...but i actually learned something in this class while he speed talked in German. Java is old. it was originally called 'Oak' and was written in... 1992! i am writing in a language that is 20 years old, which is archaic for computers. the other coding language i used, C++, was made in 1979! holy crap. this is old...for computers.
rather amusing note in English class today, vocabulary quiz. the teacher deliberately did not give me one because it would be a waste of my time. his words. so apparently me playing Mahjong and Solitaire on my computer while they write a test is also not a waste of time. i am fine with this. it was an easy test though.
final note: over the last few days, i have observed something: though i am visible and expected to attend, i a not actually on the list for any of my classes. on paper, i do not exist. i am on no attendance sheets and as such am not bound to attend, as this means i am not technically in the class. (no, i am not legitimizing and rationalizing skipping, i go to all my classes...) interesting...*rubs chin*
i need to shave.
it's late.
is anyone even still reading at this point?
*comment at the bottom, under 'Kommentare'...*

*note - turns out two of my posts were saved as drafts for some reason or another, there are actually three new posts today, although they still went to their proper chronological place*
